(ST. LOUIS, MO, April 29, 2025) St. Louis’ original Angad Arts Hotel designed by Lawrence Group has joined the Hilton portfolio under Hilton’s Collection Brand, Tapestry Collection by Hilton – a portfolio of more than 150 independent hotels with original, vibrant personalities that encourage guests to enjoy off-the-beaten-path destination experiences.
The Angad Arts Hotel was the first boutique hotel in the world where guests could book their luxury accommodations not only by room type but also by emotion of color. Designed and developed by St. Louis-based Lawrence Group and New + Found, the 146-room boutique hotel at 3550 Samuel Shepard Drive was previously known as the Missouri Theater Building and was the last vacant historic building on Grand Boulevard in the Grand Center Arts District. The hotel has continued to gain international recognition for its color-themed rooms and quality guest experience since its opening in September 2018.
“The continued growth of the Grand Center Arts District is an exciting moment for St. Louis, and Angad Arts Hotel is proud to be part of this momentum through our partnership with the Hilton Brand. With the St. Louis Symphony, Powell Hall, and The Fabulous Fox Theatre just steps away from the hotel, the neighborhood’s thriving arts and culture scene is evolving into an even more dynamic destination,” says Steve Smith, Founder & CEO of Lawrence Group and New + Found. “We’re excited to be part of what’s next for the Grand Center Arts District, including the upcoming development of Sovereign, a new event and music venue, two blocks from the hotel.”
Angad Arts Hotel immerses guests into a creative and vibrant property that features permanent art installations and rotating exhibits on the 1st floor, inside its in-house restaurant Commonwealth and on the 12th floor. All on-site artwork is curated from local artists within a 200-mile radius of the hotel, with rotating exhibit art available for purchase online.
In keeping with a non-traditional personality, the hotel’s lobby is located on the 12th floor and the main entrance is at the back of the building. An indoor-outdoor rooftop lounge called the Angad Rainbow Terrace provides event space and an expansive view of the St. Louis city skyline and leads into the Chameleon Lounge. The lounge includes a distinct 360-degree video art experience via a floor-to-ceiling, rotating Chameleon Lamp as well as musical instruments that visitors are invited to access and play.
Upgrades to the hotel since transitioning to Hilton’s Tapestry Collection include a restructured check-in desk and system for a more immersive welcoming experience for guests; a sundry constructed across from the check-in area for guests and visitors to purchase snacks, drinks and other amenities; and the fitness center which relocates to a 1,200-square-foot space on the ground floor and features Peloton bikes, treadmills, free weights and rowers. The hotel also added amenity upgrades to guest rooms, including new technology features with updated Hilton Connected Room technology as part of the transition.
Lawrence Group’s award-winning Hospitality Group, led by Associate Principal/Senior Interior Designer Galen Vassar, IIDA, NCIDQ, works to turn unique boutique brands like Angad into high-performing branded hotels, without losing their original character.
“I work with brands like Hilton and Marriott on prototypical projects and brand standards, then partner with boutique owners to apply those structures in real-world conversions. It’s about helping owners elevate their properties, drive revenue and add value while staying true to what makes their boutique hotel unique,” said Vassar.
