LUCIE, FL: —Spiezle Architectural Group, Inc., an award-winning full-service architectural, interiors, and design firm, is proud to announce that it has been selected by St. Lucie Public Schools to provide design services for the construction of the 217,500-square-foot Western Grove K-8 prototype campus. Construction is due to begin in February 2025 and be complete by August of 2026. Construction Management firm Wharton-Smith will be working in conjunction with Spiezle on the prototype campus.
Among the new construction will be two-story academic buildings, a two-story administration building, a gymnasium, a chiller plant with thermal storage, and an auditoria. The auditoria, which will double as a cafeteria and auditorium, is 33,569 sq. ft. and contains dining facilities, a kitchen, a custodial, a stage, a band classroom, a vocal classroom, and an art classroom. The auditoria will also serve as an Enhanced Hurricane Protection Area (EHPA). The exterior of the campus will feature several playgrounds, a multipurpose field, and a hard court. Additionally, the drop-off/pickup area will offer a bus loop and right-of-way for parents’ cars. When completed, the six-building campus will serve nearly 2,000 students.
Each floor of both classroom buildings consists of four classroom pods surrounding an interior extended learning area. Student and staff bathroom facilities are located on each floor within each school grade pod. Laboratories, ESE classrooms, science demonstration classrooms, skills labs, etc., are dispersed within both the common core facility and classroom buildings.
“Spiezle’s design for Western Grove K-8 builds on the extensive history shared between us and the school district, as we continue to evolve and modernize our prototypes, while creating a model that is easily replicable at other future school sites throughout the district,” said Principal Anthony Donadio of Spiezle. “This new school will provide students in St. Lucie with a safe, clean, and forward-thinking facility that will suit their needs for many years to come.”
